Women management role
One of the biggest changes of this century has been the incorporation of women into the work, social and political world. They have entered massively in the labour market and in recent times, have done well as entrepreneurs and co-operating entrepreneurs, which means a major challenge for themselves.
This great change aimed at equal "roles" between women and men, it means an important contribution to local economic development and a considerable contribution to the business world, both in leadership style, and for innovation that they incorporate the different sectors.
Every day there are more women running large companies and boards of directors, and even hold in many parts of the world, presidential office, ministries, and share with men decisions about money and economics. Gender is visible in these agencies.
They are also many women who prefer to start their company instead of working for others. The tangible benefits are: more flexible schedule and decision-making and the greatest challenge that entails, is being recognized and assert their views
An enterprising woman has certain personal characteristics: leadership ability and assumtion of risks, making decisions, negotiation, organization, or in many cases, able to deal with their duties as mother, wife, businesswoman simultaneously. Men have been educated to be proactive. By contrast, women have been educated to respond to the demands and needs of others.
Throughout life they have received a series of messages about which are their responsibilities and what is expected from them in different roles: as mothers, wives and daughters. This constant bombardment coming from different media and people, originates, but also sets a system of believes. It is well known that women have a greater capacity to perform multiple functions at the same time, while men may focus more. This attribute is called distributed attention.
Unfortunately what was considered a quality in a man, been demanding in a woman, was considered a weakness: Similarly, if a man receives a call from their children school and leaves their work, we think he is wonderful, if a woman does it, we will say she is putting aside her professional responsibility. I see it in my daily practice as Mentor, many situations, especially in family businesses, where women are attacked when they want to achieve and be successful. When a woman takes a managerial role or business, uses everything she learned, usually from men who were their bosses or husbands or fathers, to develop her new role. There are very few women who saw women manage and many times that example is somewhat biased regarding "what would a woman do", because at the same time these women also took other men as example.
Then, something that seems natural for men – “I will do the same thing that I learned from whom I learned”, or “I will do just the opposite”, reasoning that offers the novice a chance to build their own identity by similarity or contrast, in the case of women does not occur. As Mentors insist to accompany women in their duties, manage that since the identity of women is not doing as opposed to what would a man, but do it in a different way. Here is the problem, there is no track.
The question is from where you start to build this road, which is the point of origin. Usually the venue chosen means many new responsibilities, cultural and transgenerational to solve, to think about the important things of the role in things and not urgent things. The business structures are usually armed by men, it is difficult to reconcile with the ways and attitudes of women, however, if employers deem it, understand that there are a number of problems that can be solved by women with less cost, with less noise and greater consensus in the organization.
On the other hand there are women who start a venture, in this way, a thousand times met with difficulties because they are women and yet met several times with the same stone unregistering that this happens to almost all of their gender, because sometimes, employees, customers and suppliers have in their heads cultural patterns that do not include them as an equal. Indeed, many women look and listen just as a man would do, because a thousand and one reasons, a very simple one is that they are not accustomed to meet a woman in that role.
An important element is to recognize is that we live in a Latin society. We know that there are marked differences, studied and investigated by sociological and anthropological teams from universities in different countries on attitudes and perceptions of people with this cultural background.
Then the first suggestion is not to be distracted and accept that in Latin society women and men roles are experienced as different. This will determine a new style, a new management. It is resorting to its own strengths rather than strengths beyond. Understand that the gaze of others is not the same. We must bear in mind that there are feelings and cultural aspects that cause that the same sentence does not mean the same thing if a woman says than if a man pronounces it, and it does not denotes the same thing if it concerns a man or a woman.
There is a noticeable difference listening and understanding for the words of a man or a woman.
You just need to understand what are the rules of the "game" and not try to play with rules "borrowed". Nor to go against these rules, but accept they exist with no anger, looking for roads that will lead to the goal.
Is not this finally the beginning of a good negotiation?
